Communities, neighborhoods, and blocks are the smallest land areas mapped in Atlas. There is no repeatable definition for these areas however, a block is defined here as 10-12 dwelling units in an urban setting and 2-4 dwelling units in a rural setting.
For each community there are four Base maps and any number of Theme maps, all scaled and oriented to the community. Three Base maps show the community with different backgrounds, and one is scaled to show the area surrounding the community.
Local managed knowledge, such as noticeable features used for orientation, or the location of resources or special needs to support community, neighborhood, and block safety projects like watch groups and emergency teams, can be "mapped" and displayed.
