Dr. Robert
Crittenden, former consultant to Fish & Wildlife Agency:
Dr. Crittenden reviewed the history of salmon protection efforts over
the past 25 years, the impact of the Bolt decision on water and salmon, and
the current stakeholders in the debate and their proposals. Tom Carpenter,
Potential Annexations Areas (Renton Plateau).
Tom reported on the Open Houses being held by Dick Bonewits
(Chairman, Maple Valley UAC) and Paul Carkeek, Rural Economic
Strategies. Dick believes the Critical
Areas Ordinance (CAO) is flawed and that KC does not take input from rural
residents seriously and, instead, imposes controls from the top down and
predetermines the outcome of proposals.
Dick believes that most rural residents want to be left alone, oppose
all annexation, want to protect the environment and believe in property
rights. Dick mentioned a new group,
Rural Majority, that he claims is against rural
residents while the CAPR is pro-rural and pro-property rights. |
