President Rick Spence called for volunteers to fill vacant Council positions. There were no volunteers for empty district seats.
Deputy's
Report:
|
_ |
Deputy Maxwell reported the latest
numbers: -
Burglaries: down to 9 in March versus 11 in February -
Auto Thefts:
down to 3 in March versus 4 in February -
Larcenies:
down to 7 in March versus 13 in February There was a robbery of the Wells
Fargo bank branch within the Safeway store in Councilman Dunn asked if there has
been an increase in methamphetamine labs in this area. Deputy Maxwell reported that there has been
and that the long dirt roads and private (hidden) nature of some rural
properties make them attractive for this kind of activity. |

Old Business
|
_ |
Sharon S. reported
that Cedar Grove Composting’s has not been permitted
for its new technology yet. Approval
may not come until next winter. In the
meantime, the odor has been less. David R. reported
that the website is still having problems.
Even former secretary, Gwen H., has been having troubles even though
it had previously worked for her.
David will try to meet with Gwen.
If he can’t get it working then Dellanie will investigate the Costco
website hosting service. |

Edie
Jorgensen gave the Treasurer’s report.
There is $309 in the checking account. There has been no spending for the
month. We now have a second signer on
the account, David R. Edie has been
unable to obtain a credit/debit card to pay for the website as it requires an
EIN # which the UAC never obtained. She
will continue to work on this.
New
Business.
Henry
Jacobsen, local resident, presented information about difficulties his
neighborhood has been having with the Renton Fish & Game Club. The problems include traffic (speeding),
garbage, derelicts, drug dealing, dust, and noise. Mr. Jacobsen feels that the community has
tried to work with the Club and does not want to see it closed down. To date, their efforts to resolve the issues
amicably have been unsuccessful. He sent
an inquiry to David Irons office but has not received a response. There has been new coverage as well. Chuck P. agreed to look into this issue
further and report back to the UAC.
Councilman
Reagan Dunn discussed his proposal for a Deputy Ombudsman for Rural and
Unincorporated Affairs. This person
would be an independent (does not report to the County Executive’s office)
rural advocate that would have investigative and administrative subpoena
powers. This person would be hired by
the current County Ombudsman and approved by the King County Council. Ideally, Councilman Dunn believes this person
would be a resident of unincorporated King County, sympathetic to rural
residents, and knowledgeable regarding land-use issues. They would collect data, conduct
investigations, and make recommendations to the Council on legislation or
regulations. Councilman Dunn feels that
while this is not the final solution to issues faced by residents of
unincorporated King County, it is an important step in addressing those issues.
Rick S.
passed out the transcript of a KIRO TV story regarding fuel spills caused by
King County employees disabling safety equipment. Rick is concerned that DDES does not enforce
regulations and penalties against King County in the same manner as it does
against ordinary citizens. He asked
Councilman Dunn to look into code enforcement discrepancies.
Holly Sawin, code enforcement officer for the Four Creeks Area
introduced herself. She started in this
position in November and lives in Fall City.
Rick S.
announced that there would be a May Valley community potluck on May 2, 2005.
Councilman
Dunn announced that he’d opened an office in Renton and would have an open
house on Thursday, April 21 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.
Ronda B. informed the UAC that there was a meeting of
the West Hill Community Council PAA (potential annexation area) and, in a
general vote, 2/3 favored annexation to Renton.
Edie J. said
that a group from the Four Lakes area was interested in hearing a presentation
on roads planned for next month. The
agenda for next month was discussed and it was decided that it would cover
Roads (policy person and road engineer) and the Renton Fish & Game Club.
Meeting adjourned at
8:55 pm.
