Paul Shallow – Hazardous Waste Education Group, a partnership of King County and Seattle Public
Health Departments as well as DNRP and the Suburban Cities Association
|
§ |
The purpose of the Hazardous Waste Education Group is to protect public health and the environment educating citizens and improving services and facilities for: - proper disposal One of their biggest and most successful programs is the EnviroStars. You may have seen the logo sticker on the doors and websites of local businesses who have made a commitment to use, produce and sell products that are environmentally friendly and to reduce their contributions to the waste-stream. Businesses that participate become eligible for financial incentives to purchase less polluting upgrade equipment. There is a materials re-use store at 3641 2nd Ave in Seattle that is open to the public. All kinds of household and construction materials are available there. If you have a question of any kind related to proper disposal of any material you think might be hazardous – call the Haz Line at 206-296-4692. The have all the answers and can connect you to resources and services throughout the county. More info is available from the FCUAC home page at www.fourcreeks.org. |
Elections Committee
|
§ |
David R. provided an update on the committee’s ongoing advertising efforts. Contacts have been made at the Issaquah Press (ad to begin soon), the King County Journal and the Renton Report. Notices announcing the upcoming election have also been distributed through Councilmember David Irons’ electronic and mailed newsletters. The Committee has determined that it may need an additional $500 to cover the cost of printing in the event that we have so many candidates for this election that we need an additional page for the ballot. It was decided not to act on this issue until the next Regular Meeting, as we will have a better count of candidates at that time as well as sufficient time to make and necessary changes. |
Executive Committee
|
§ |
Heather C. reported that she has begun to track down the remaining bank issue – bank statements are not being sent to the FCUAC post office box. She is working with the bank and anticipates significant progress by next meeting. We have received the current copy of our insurance policy from Griffen McClean as a result of our premium payment. Our new member, Dellanie Fragnoli, reported that she has professional insurance experience, so the policy paperwork was passed to her. She will review and make any appropriate recommendations. Edie J. read the response letters that we received from Rob McKenna and David Irons on our letter regarding the proposed updates to the CAO (et. Al.) There was much discussion of the CAO topic – our participation, the remaining steps, etc. It is expected that new amendments will be proposed before the legislation goes to the County Council for a final vote based on some nearly last minute wetlands presentations. Kelly F. reported that the issue made the King County Bar Association’s newsletter. The article may be available to the public at www.kcba.org. You may have to request a copy of the August edition. |
